Red Cardinal Snapshot
WHAT IT DOES
Broadcom designs custom AI accelerators for the biggest cloud companies, sells the networking silicon inside AI data centers, and runs a large infrastructure-software business (VMware).
HOW IT MAKES MONEY
Two engines: semiconductors (custom AI chips and networking, sold in enormous volumes to few customers) and software subscriptions with aggressive pricing discipline.
WHY WE TRACK IT
Broadcom is the structural counterweight in the AI chip thesis: every dollar hyperscalers spend on custom silicon is a dollar of NVIDIA independence — and much of it flows through Broadcom either way.
THE SIMPLE THESIS
Heads or tails on AI compute: if NVIDIA keeps winning, Broadcom sells the networking; if customers escape to custom chips, Broadcom builds those too. The bet is on the toll road, not one carriage.
