WHAT IT DOES
Emerson makes the nervous system of continuous-process industry: DeltaV distributed control systems that run entire plants, Rosemount instruments that measure pressure, flow, and temperature at millions of points, and the valves and actuators that physically move what those systems decide. On top of the hardware sits software — AspenTech for optimizing how plants run, National Instruments for testing and measuring what engineers build.
HOW IT MAKES MONEY
It sells that stack to the operators of plants where something flows continuously — LNG terminals, refineries, chemical plants, pharmaceutical lines, mines. Big projects bring the initial control-system win; then decades of instruments, valve replacements, software subscriptions, and service follow, because once a plant runs on your control system, it rarely leaves.
