Red Cardinal Snapshot
WHAT IT DOES
Quanta Services is the largest specialty contractor for electric infrastructure: its crews physically build and maintain the transmission lines, substations, and renewable interconnections that everyone else's electricity thesis depends on. When a utility or developer needs high-voltage work done, Quanta is who shows up.
HOW IT MAKES MONEY
Utilities, grid operators, and renewable developers hire Quanta under a mix of long-term master service agreements — recurring maintenance and upgrade work priced by the hour or unit — and larger fixed-price projects for new transmission and generation hookups. The recurring base pays the bills; the big projects move the needle.
WHY WE TRACK IT
The AI buildout's binding constraint is electricity, and electricity's binding constraint is not equipment — it is trained people. You can order a transformer and wait; you cannot order ten thousand certified high-voltage crews at any price. Quanta owns the largest private pipeline of that labor, including its own lineworker college.
THE SIMPLE THESIS
GE Vernova sells the machines, Eaton sells the equipment, Quanta sells the hands — and hands are the bottleneck. Whichever generation source wins the decade, someone has to string the wire, and Quanta collects either way.
