Red Cardinal Snapshot

WHAT IT DOES

Stryker makes the hardware of modern surgery and emergency care: hip and knee implants, the Mako surgical robot that helps install them, trauma and extremities systems, endoscopy cameras and towers, hospital beds and stretchers, defibrillators, and neurovascular devices that pull clots out of stroke patients' brains.

HOW IT MAKES MONEY

By selling equipment and implants to hospitals, surgery centers, and emergency services. The clever part is the mix: capital equipment like Mako robots and endoscopy towers gets a facility committed, and then implants and disposables flow through that installed base procedure after procedure, year after year.

WHY WE TRACK IT

Aging demographics are the most reliable force in healthcare — populations get older on a schedule, joints wear out with use, and replacement surgery is one of medicine's most proven fixes. Stryker converts that demographic certainty into device demand across nearly every room a patient passes through, which makes it a clean read on how aging actually monetizes.

THE SIMPLE THESIS

Demographics load the demand; execution decides who captures it. Stryker's bet is that robots, ambulatory surgery centers, and a relentless acquisition machine let it take more than its share of a market that grows slowly but almost never shrinks. The risk is the mirror image: steady demand attracts price pressure, and a valuation built on execution has no tailwind to hide behind.
